Well, I guess I had some pretty high aspirations for when I would “publish” my first novel. I missed the date!
Mostly it’s because the cover isn’t ready (the spine has to be adjusted to the correct page number, and my designer is away until Monday).
So why did I want to publish today? October 2nd? What’s so special about this day anyway? PLENTY.
It’s my birthday. It’s also my grandmother’s birthday. Yes, we have the same birthday! And I thought that it would be particularly poetic for me to publish a novel about my grandmother on such a meaningful day.
There’s also a part in the book about a special ring and, well, my grandmother gifted me a pretty special ring with our birthstone: an opal. According to Opal Minded, opal’s “luminous play of colour reflects the many sides of life, reminding October-born souls of their adaptability, depth, and inner strength.” I know my grandmother possessed these qualities, and I’d like to think that I do, too. I’m honoured we share the same birthday.
Anyways, seeing as I missed publishing on Oct 2, my next goal is to have it published in time for Remembrance Day. It’s about WW2 after all, so that seems appropriate.
When October 2nd rolls around next year, I’ll try to do something special. Watch for it!
